Family Bank Ltd is seeking to recruit a highly competent and ethical Internal Auditor to strengthen its internal control environment and support the Bank’s transformation agenda. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to improved governance, risk management, and operational efficiency across the Bank’s growing Corporate, Retail, MSME, and Digital Banking segments.

Job Purpose

The Internal Auditor will provide independent and objective assurance and advisory services aimed at adding value and improving the Bank’s operations. The role involves evaluating the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes across branches, business units, and head office functions. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and enhancing operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Audit Planning and Execution

  • Participate in the development and execution of the annual risk-based audit plan.
  • Conduct audits across various areas including branches, credit, treasury, digital banking channels, operations, finance, and IT.
  • Prepare and maintain audit working papers in line with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards.
  • Identify control weaknesses, process gaps, and policy non-compliance, and recommend practical improvement solutions.

Risk Assessment and Control Evaluation

  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of controls in managing key business risks.
  • Evaluate internal control systems to ensure alignment with the Bank’s objectives.
  • Support audits of transformation initiatives and new product launches to ensure proper risk and control alignment.

Audit Reporting

  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured audit reports highlighting findings, root causes, and recommendations.
  • Engage management in discussing audit findings and agreeing on corrective actions.
  • Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations and report progress to the Audit Manager.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with CBK Prudential Guidelines, AML/CFT regulations, and internal policies.
  • Identify potential fraud risks, non-compliance issues, or unethical conduct and escalate appropriately.
  • Promote good governance, accountability, and ethical practices across the Bank.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Support the adoption of data analytics, continuous auditing, and audit automation tools.
  • Identify emerging risks related to digital banking, cybersecurity, and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in internal training and professional development initiatives.

Required Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing and internal control assessment.
  • Understanding of banking operations including loans, deposits, payments, and treasury.
  • Knowledge of CBK regulations, Basel principles, and AML/CFT requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic knowledge of audit tools such as ACL, IDEA, or Power BI.
  • Understanding of COSO framework and the Three Lines of Defence model.
  • Awareness of digital banking, fintech, and IT-related risks.
  • Excellent audit report writing skills.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree (MBA or MSc in Finance/Risk) will be an added advantage.
  • Mandatory professional qualification: CPA (K), ACCA, or CIA.
  • Additional certifications such as CISA, CRMA, or CFE are an added advantage.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body such as ICPAK, IIA, ISACA, or ACFE.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Risk, or Assurance within a commercial bank or financial institution.
  • Practical experience in branch operations, credit, or digital banking audits is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of banking systems, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exposure to data analytics or IT audit tools will be an added advantage.
