Officer – Network Administrator

Job Purpose
The Network Administrator will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing the Bank’s network infrastructure to ensure high availability, reliability, and security of all banking operations. The role combines strong technical expertise in network administration with an understanding of banking and financial services operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Responsibilities
- Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions for network infrastructure upgrades and enhancements.
- Manage network-related expenditures within approved budgets.
2. Customer Focus
- Ensure seamless and reliable network connectivity to support uninterrupted banking services.
- Work closely with customer-facing teams to promptly resolve network-related issues affecting service delivery.
3. Internal Business Processes
- Design, implement, and maintain robust network infrastructure to support internal banking operations.
- Participate in the development and implementation of business continuity and disaster recovery plans for network systems.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess network needs and implement solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and policies to ensure consistency and clarity in operations.
Functional Responsibilities
- Design networking environments by defining system configurations, directing installations, and enforcing system standards.
- Implement new network solutions and improve the resilience of existing infrastructure.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot outages, schedule upgrades, and optimize network efficiency.
- Conduct data network fault investigations in both local and wide area network environments.
- Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing access control and security policies.
- Support and administer firewall environments in line with IT security policies.
- Prepare and report network operational status and manage network-related projects.
- Upgrade network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases.
- Configure routing and switching equipment.
- Configure and support hosted IP voice services.
- Perform basic firewall configurations.
- Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users during installations.
- Conduct remote troubleshooting and fault resolution during and after installations.
- Manage network capacity and audit IP addressing and hosted devices within data centres.
- Support and administer third-party applications.
- Implement and respond to audit observations and recommendations.
- Monitor network performance and security, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Implement network security measures including access controls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols.
- Conduct regular network audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
- Provide technical support for network-related incidents.
- Liaise with external vendors and service providers for procurement and implementation of network solutions.
Job Specification
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field
- A Master’s degree (MSc in IT or equivalent) is an added advantage
Professional Certifications
- CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent professional networking certifications
Experience & Skills
- Hands-on experience in network administration, installation, and infrastructure management
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, remote implementations, troubleshooting, and problem resolution
- Strong understanding of enterprise network environments
Desired Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in network administration
- Previous experience in the banking or financial services sector is highly desirable
